Celebrate Bastille Day at Home: A Private French Feast in Sydney
Every 14th of July, France stops to celebrate le 14 juillet fireworks over Paris, tricolour flags, and long tables spilling over with good food and better wine. You don't need a flight to Paris to join in. This year, why not bring Bastille Day to your own dining room, with a menu designed and cooked by a chef who trained in some of France's most celebrated kitchens?
At Noranise Dining, Bastille Day is one of our favourite occasions of the year. It's the one night when French pride and French produce take centre stage together and there's no better way to mark it than gathered around your own table with the people you love.
Why Host Your Own Bastille Day Dinner?
Sydney's French restaurants get booked out fast in the lead-up to the 14th, and a noisy dining room isn't always what you want when you're celebrating with family or close friends. Hosting privately means:
No queues, no rush. Your evening moves at your pace, from apéritif to dessert.
A menu built around you. Dietary needs, favourite ingredients, a wine you've been saving : it all gets woven into the night.
The full experience, zero stress.Chef Pierre brings the produce, the technique, and the service, so you get to actually enjoy your own party.
A Taste of the Evening
While every Bastille Day menu is created bespoke, here's the kind of evening Chef Pierre loves to build for Sydney tables in July:
Apéritif : Gougères straight from the oven, paired with a chilled Crémant, the classic French way to start any celebration.
Entrée : Poached lobster with Cru Caviar butter sauce covered with pasta, roasted cauliflower and toasted hazelnut
Main : Chicken roasted with wild mushroom, parsnip pepper puree and creamy sauce
Cheese : A small selection of French cheeses, because no Bastille Day table is complete without them.
Dessert : Le Soufflé with dark chocolate and hazelnut, finished tableside.
Of course, this is just a starting point. Chef Pierre works with you to shape a menu around your guests, your kitchen, and the mood you want for the night, whether that's an elegant seated dinner or a relaxed, convivial feast.
Turn It Into a Cooking Class
If you'd rather learn the tricolour magic yourself, Bastille Day is the perfect excuse for a private French cooking class at home. Chef Pierre will guide you and your guests through classic techniques - think knife skills for a proper mirepoix, building a mother sauce, or getting that tarte Tatin caramel just right - before everyone sits down to enjoy the meal they've just made, served properly by the chef himself.
It's a wonderful option for a birthday that happens to fall in July, a team celebration, or simply a group of friends who want a genuinely memorable night rather than another dinner out.
